“Newton’s First Law of Motion states that a body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it, and a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force”
Why do I start my blog entry with physics? I had a long day at work, 4 hour round trip commute, then I had to pick up my teenage daughter from crew training. I left the house 5:30am and came home 7pm. It was a long day!
On the way home, I was telling my classical guitar playing daughter, I might not practice, because I am tired. She said that she was on Tumblr and she saw a post in a music related group, where someone said start practicing no matter what because, “a body in motion will stay in motion…”. So I told her, ” you’re right, I’ll practice the Bach Allemande for 10-15 minutes.
After family dinner and helping my son with math homework, I started my practice with a couple of warm up scales. Then I started the Allemande. One hour later I finished my practice with a mistake free (by my low standards) run through of the Allemande! So this body, once in motion stayed in motion! Small victory for a very busy week.
So no matter what, open up the cello case, rosin up the bow and start practicing. You never know what fantastic results you’ll get.
P.S. As I write this I have a warm feeling in my heart, knowing that my love of music has rubbed off on my children. Enough so that they can now motivate me to practice.
